Book Review- Your Beauty Mark by Dita Von Teese

I finally got it! Dita Von Teese's new book! Ever since I heard about it on Instagram, I have been dying to get my hands on it. Dita Von Teese is one of today's biggest vintage icons, and one of my many inspirations. So when I saw she wrote a book where she disclosed all her beauty secrets, I knew I had to have it.

I can't even begin to describe how amazing this book was. It isn't like most beauty books out there that constantly say the same things over and over again like a broken record. Dita's vintage charm made this book unique, interesting, and impossible to put down.

She included hair tutorials, makeup tutorials, beauty, and most important confident tips. This book was so well written and contained some of the most eloquent writing I have ever read in a book about beauty. Dita definitely has a way with words. This book is definitely a must have for all vintage glamour loving people, and beauty geeks.

The thing the stuck out most to me in this book, was how much confidence was squeezed in to every beauty tip or fun story. The book always made a point to kind of say 'You Do You' but in a very elegant and glamorous manner. Dita Von Teese is definitely an inspiration to me, not just because of her stunning looks, but her class and confidence.

Hope you enjoyed this book review, and stayed tuned because I am putting up another post right after this. I hope all you enjoyed your holidays and that you have a happy new year!

That One Vintage Blogger One Year Anniversary - 5 things I learned in my first year blogging

I can't believe it has been one whole year since I started this blog!!! I never thought that having a blog could make me so happy and change my life how this blog has. I am so thankful for all of you who have make it possible for me to feel this joy, and I hope my blog has shed some joy on your life too.

In honor of my one year anniversary, I have decided to make a list of 5 things I learned from my first year blogging.

5 Things I Learned In My First Year
 Blogging

1. Blogging is much harder than it looks

When I got the idea to start That One Vintage Blogger, I was under the impression that blogging was easy- and I soon found out just how wrong I was. I expected that it would take five minutes to think of and write a post, and that my blog would look beautiful and professional my first time trying. I also thought that I would just magically get page views out of nowhere (without advertising) and that within a month I would become Internet famous (HA!) Naturally, I found out the reality of blogging after a few months. The reality is posts take a long time to think of and write, my blog still after a year doesn't have the look I imagined for it, even after constantly advertising my page views are extremely low, and that nobody on the blogisphere knows who I am. Even after discovering these truths, I stuck with blogging because of how happy it made me, and I don't regret it one bit!

2. Don't care about what others think

Before I started this blog, I was very afraid of what others thought of me, and my weird taste in just about everything. I would never wear any of my vintage outfits in public because of the looks I was afraid I would get, and I most certainly never be telling my friend at school about my favorite band Dion and the Belmont's. After starting this blog, and truly getting to see the online vintage community, I have never felt more confident to be who I really am- a vintage loving weirdo!

3. Don't bite off more than you can chew

Even before I started my blog, I had a list of projects and posts I was going to do once I started up. Unfortunately, I haven't even got half of those things done after a year of blogging. My big plans interrupted the small things I needed to do in order to get my blog up and running in a timely fashion, for example advertising and using social media to extend my blogs reach. I am just recently catching up on those things, and they turn out to be very enjoyable tasks. It just would have been better if I would have worked my way up instead of working on these huge impossible projects.

4. Internet people are the best kinds of people

Since joining the world of blogging, I have discovered people I had only dreamed of finding, people just like me. This blog has given me a platform to find amazing people, who are into the same things I am, and are some of the nicest people I have ever met. Although I haven't actually met any of my online friends, they are constantly inspiring me, helping me, and giving me the confidence I need to proudly share my vintage life style with all of you. I would also like to thank all of my viewers for being so amazing and making this awesome journey possible, you guys all rock!

5. This blogging is one of the best things to ever happen to me

My life will be forever changed because of this blog and all of you. This first year has meant so much to me, and I am so excited for many years to come. This blog has made me so unbelievably happy, and  I hope it has shed some happiness on your life too. I have so many ideas for posts coming in the near future, so please keep tuning in for some cool posts.

Thank You so much for all you have done for me this past year! Happy Holidays!

Theresa

Vintage Birthday OOTD

I am so sorry I haven't posted in forever, I have been super busy with cheer leading and school, and I haven't been doing too many things that I can blog about. But I assure you I have many posts in the works right now, especially with the one year anniversary of the blog coming up! So anyways, Friday (the eleventh) was my birthday, and I decided I would share the vintage outfit I wore. I just realized I haven't ever done an outfit post, and I thought today would be good time to start.

Since my favorite color is pink, I wanted to wear something with a touch of pink that wasn't too over the top, and I think the outfit I choose was a perfect balance.

I wore a vintage blue and pink plaid skirt, a vintage pink flower brooch, and my sweater is from Hollister (sorry, I tried to keep it as vintage as possible.)

That's all for this outfit post, and I hope to be doing more in the future to share my vintage style with all of you. I promise I will be uploading more, so say tuned for that. Happy Holidays!

Antique Singer Sewing Machine!!

I can barely type because I am so excited about what I bought. Yesterday I went to an estate sale near my house and instantly fell in love with what I found in the basement. It was an antique Singer sewing machine.

The Original asking price for this beauty was $75, which was kind of out of my price limit, but still a good deal. After some thought the sales person made an offer of $40 to keep the sale going because they were about to close the estate sale. I would have been stupid not to accept that stupidly cheap price for that beautiful sewing machine.

I have to admit the condition isn't the greatest, but I'm sure that with a tiny bit of restoration it will be perfect.

As far as I can tell the sewing machine still works. My siblings took turns all morning playing with it. It is really fun and satisfying to use the foot petal and see it actually work.
My sister Maria wanted to demonstrate for all of you, but the picture is kind of blurry :)
Here is a video from my instagram of my little sister demonstrating.

This is one of my favorite antique finds yet. I am so lucky to have found  this.

I don't know what I will be using is for yet, but I am glad that I was the one who purchased it, and not someone who was going to destroy it and turn it into a sink, or chair, or anything like that.

Theresa

Antique Estate Sale Haul

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hey Y'all, I'm back again with another antique post! Today was an exciting day because I got to go to an estate sale in my neighborhood that had a ton of cool things. The best part was I only spent $16, and got 4 really cool antique finds.

The first item I am going to tell you about is my brothers. For some reason they were unusually compelled to buy this Mother Goose record. It didn't some with a cover for the record, just a paper sleeve thing, but I don't think it has any scratched as far as I can see. But yay for them for taking an interest in antiques.

I also bought a record for myself, The Sound Of Music. I almost squealed with excitement when I saw this, because the sound of music is one of my favorites. It was in perfect condition, and still had the little booklet with it.

Next I have something that some people may find strange. When I saw these two barbie carrying cases from 1965 and I knew that I HAD to get them them. They were going for an amazing price too, only $7 a piece.

Although it is sad, these two aren't in the best condition, the sides are bent, and the insides are ripped an drawn on. I am hoping I can be able to restore these, and if I do I will be sure to right a post about them.

Thats all I have for now, but I hope to be doing some more antique shopping in the near future.Thank you so much for reading, and make sure to stay tuned for future posts.
Love,
T

Book Review - Popular

If you know me, you know that I love to read. Weather its magazines, books, blogs, even instructions to a board game, I love reading. Since I love reading so much you can imagine that I have read many books, more like 5 libraries full of books. (still not as much as my sister though) Out of all the books I have ever read in my lifetime, my most recent read takes home the prize for first place.

A while back ago, I was on the Internet doing what the average Theresa does when she surfs the web - searched for random 50s stuff- but I found something interesting. I stumbled upon an article about the book Popular. After just hearing what the book was about in the first paragraph of the article, I knew I had to get my hands on this book. The book Popular By Maya Van Wagenen, is about socially awkward Maya who during her 8th grade year follows popularity advice from Betty Cornell's Teen-Age Popularity Guide, and makes life changing self discoveries, and learns the true meaning of popularity.

One of the main reasons I am in love with this book, is that I can relate to Maya. I am a little bit awkward and quirky like her, and often have trouble trying to find where I fit in. Another reason I loved this book was that her book inspires me to be more confident. A lot of the things she has experienced in the book, I have also experienced like people not understanding my vintage outfits or hairstyles, and I felt like I was not alone in the struggle. Maya did some pretty brave things in that book I would be way to scared to do myself, like sitting at every table in the lunch room, and making friends with all the "Popular" kids.

Maya Van Wagenen is truly an amazing author who inspires me, and I admire her for inspiring so many other girls all over the world. So this book may just be any other book to you, but it means a whole lot to me.

That One Vintage Blogger - New and Improved

First I would like to start off by saying that I love this blog, and that I love all my veiwers who read on here from time to time. I would also like to say that this blog has made me so happy, it gives me a chance to do what i love most, write, and to know that people read it, and may even enjoy what I write means the world to me.

Although I am ashamed to admit it, I hve not been putting as much love into it as I did monthes back when I first started it, but I do love it too much to let it turn into what the path it is on right now may lead it to. Lately my posts have sucked, they lack in editing skills and basic structure and content. My pageveiws have taken a drastic fall, and have never recovered, wich is my fault for my lack of posts, bad posts, and lack of advertisement. The pictures on my blog have sucked too, they are taken on an fouth genertion IPod Touch, and are edited in a random free photo editing app. Even the way my blog looks and is set up would turn potential veiwers away.

All of those things end now, no more excuses. From this point on my blog will never be the same. I'm talking better quality and better edited posts, wich will be posted on a regular basis. More advertisement to attract more people to my blog. Better pictures taken on a REAL camera. Also more posts of what YOU want to see. Any posts you would like me to do in the future, I would love to hear about them, so leave me a comment.

I love all you guys and this blog so much, and I am so exiced to see where the future takes us and this blog. I can't wait to share with you guys all my new ideas. I have had the best time for allmost a year now with you guys and this blog, and I can't wait for all the fun and excitement in years to come.

My Antique Shopping List

So lately I have hit a rough patch in my antique collecting. I know I already have a good amount of antiques, but can you really blame me for wanting more. For now I am giving my wallet a break, but if I see any of the items on this list for a good deal, not even an army could stop me from buying them. Some of these are rare and expensive, others I just haven't gotten around to collect them. Hopefully I can get my hands on these soon, and when I do, I'll make sure to post about them.

1. A record player and more records
-so in my 5 tips on collecting old records post, I mentioned that I am collecting old records, while searching for the perfect record player. Sadly, I still haven't found one yet. And as for records, I can usually find a way to get them for cheap, so there is no harm in wanting more of those.

2. A typewriter
- I know, I know, it's so typical writer of me to want a typewriter, but can you blame me when the are so freaking cool!? But I don't see me buying one in the near future, unless I get a really, really good deal on one.

3. Vintage gloves
- How can I feel like a classy lady from the 1950s without some more vintage gloves? These aren't generally that expensive, so I might be buying some more pairs soon.

4. Vintage purses
- I am ashamed to admit that I surprisingly do not own any vintage purses. I personally am not that big of a purse fan, as long as it fits my stuff that's usually enough for me. But I want to branch out a bit and buy maybe 1 or 2 vintage purses.

5. Vintage jewelry box
- So if you want to know what my current jewelry situation is, just imagine a and explosion of pearls everywhere. This find would help me get a lot more organized.

6. Vintage magazines
- I don't really know why I want them, I just think they would be cool.

7. Vintage sweaters
- It is just really hard to find a vintage sweater in good condition, so I'm keeping my eyes open, because I need more to go with all my vintage skirts.

8. 1950s cat eye sunglasses
- I have looked everywhere and still haven't found a good pair. Witch really sucks because a pair of those could boost my summer style from a 5 to a 10 in three seconds flat

9. Little vintage boxes
- I don't really know how to describe them, but I see them in antique stores, and I think they would be really cute to store little random things in.

10. A vintage barbie doll
- I know it's sounds childish, but for some reason I have a weird fascination with barbie. My only problem is I want some of the first kinds I barbies ever made, and on eBay they range from $299-$1,000. So I'm hoping to find a seller who has no idea of its worth, and buy it for cheap.

11. Old camera
- The only thing with this one is that I like things to be in working condition, I want to actually use them insted of just sitting them on a shelf, so I would like to maybe find a working camera, wich might be a bit much to ask for.

12. Old radio
- Same thing with the camera, I want it to still work, so that may be hard to find

13. Gossip bench/telephone table
- The only thing holding me back from buying one of these is that I have no place to store it. :(

14. An old telephone
- So I have wanted one of these for the longest time, and I don't know why I haven't bought one yet. I just really want to feel like I was in 'Telephone Hour' from Bye Bye Birdie. :)

15. Chenille Bedspread
- I am so in love with these, if you follow me on Pinterest you would see a ton of chenille bedspread pins. I want one extremely bad, the only thing is I want one in good condition that isn't stained and that doesn't look worn. I could honestly marry a chenille breadspread-that is just how bad I want one.

16. Kidney shaped vanity with skirt
- I think it is safe to say that I am in love with these. Although I currnetly have a vanity from the 60s/70s, My heart cant help from leaping out of its chest everytime I see a picture of one on the interent.

That does not even scratch the surface of antique items I want to buy, but I thought I would just share some with you guys. When I do buy them, I will edit the post and mark that I had bought it, along with the link to the post about it. I might be making another one of these in the future too. Have a great day!

5 Tips On Buying Old Records

So recently my record collection has been expanding. This may sound strange that I collect records when I don't have a record player, but I'm saving up money, and browsing around antique shops looking for the perfect one. I do however have a record player at my house, but it isnt't mine, so I can still listen to records, just not on my own record player.

Anyways, a couple days ago I picked up some records and thought I would make a mini post about them, because I rarely post. So Todays post is 5 tips on buying old records.

Tip #1: How do I know the record has been protected all these years?

The most important thing is that it has a sleeve on. Why is this important? If a record doesnt have a sleeve/cover it is more likely to get scratched and damadged. Unless you have already tried out the record before buying it, I dont think it's worth taking a chance on. Besides, most of the time the covers can be really cute. Also ask the seller where the records have been stored, and make sure to smell the records for mold or any other fowl smells.

Tip #2: Where do you buy records?

The number one place I see record at is garage sales. Usually garage sales sell them cheeper than record shops, and a lot of times sell boxes of records at a time. Another place you can buy them is second hand shops, or places like salvation army or good will, they sell them pretty cheap too. But I would not reconmend buying them online-too risky.

Tip #3: How much should you spend?

In all honesty, it depends on the record, and the seller. If your buying from an antique shop or a record store, they may charge you a lot more than a garage sale or second hand shop will charge you. When I buy from garage sales or second hand shops I pay anywhere from 10 cents to five dollars. At Antique stores or record stores I pay anywhere from $5-$30, depending on the store and record. Anything above $15-$20 for an old used record is too much in my opinion, but if you want it, I'm not stopping you.

Tip #4: How do I know when the record is from?

If your like me you may like to get records for a certain time period- my favorites 40s,50s, and early 60's. So if you wanted to know when the record was from you could ask the seller, but often times they may no know/remember. You could look for the copywrite date- this is usually what I do to get a for certain answer. Or lastly you could google it, although google usually has the answer to everything, it may not know information about lesser known records.

Tip #5: How do you know if the record is in good condition or not?

The number one thing to look for when inspecting a record is scratches. Minor scratches might not be a big deal, but very deep scratches that are visable to the naked eye could be a problem. Also look for discoloration, and if the record is warped or bent at all.

That's all my tips for now. Hopefully I can make more posts like this where I give tips on buying different antique items. I hope you enjoyed.

T

Vintage Train Case

Is it just me, or is anyone else in love with vintage suitcases? Its problibly just me, but if you are obsessed too, then your gonna love this post. Ok so my latest vintage find is this beautiful grey/blue train case.
But sadly, this beautiful piece of luggage did not come in the condition you see here. When I first got my hands on it, it looked a little something like this.
It pained me to see my newest find abused like this, so I got to work. First off, I started to clean off the outside . I was very conflicted about how to clean it though. I didn't want to ruin it, so I played it safe. I took some water with a few squirts of dish soap, and carefully used that to scrub the outside of the case with a paint sponge. (I was too worried an actual sponge might scratch it.)

And I'm so happy with how the outside turned out!
I wasn't done yet though. So your problibly wondering, what about the inside? Well the answer to that was the inside was in beautiful perfect condition.
(ps those are just scrap peices of fabric)
Well almost perfect condition. The only thing wrong with the inside was that it had that old gross smell to it. But I was determined to restore this peice completely, so getting rid of the smell was a must.

First I looked on Pinterest for some home remedies for the stench. The first option I found was cat liter. So I poured it into a bowl, placed it in the case, and let it sit for 2 days. It didn't work. So then I was on to solution #2, baking soda. So I did the same with the baking soda, and it worked! There is still barely a scent, but most of it is gone.

Once I got the smell out, I wanted to make it smell good, so I placed some t bags in it, and let it air out.
Now my train case is all fixed up and ready to be taken on adventures!
Until next time, stay beautiful!

I'm Sew In Love!!

I know, I know, the title is cheesy, but that's me, I'm cheesy, deal with it!

Hello vintage lovers, today I thought I would share with you all one of my latest cool antique finds; a vintage sewing machine. I am sew in love with it! (get it? hehe)

I was actually quite surprised to have fallen in love with this item because it is from the seventies, and I'm more of a forties/fifties girl, but it's honestly so adorable I don't know how anyone could not fall in love with it!

It is a Signature jr, so it was designed to be used by children, but whatever, I'm still a child at heart! <3  Anyways it came in great condition. I plugged it into the wall and that was it! My only problem is I need to get a new needle for it, because it requires a very very tiny one, but other than that nothing else.

It came in this adorable case too. :)

And it still had the manual with it.

I'm sew excited to start using it! Who knows, maybe some diys using it in the future!
Love,
Theresa

Read All About It!!! Vintage books!!!

What's up vintage lovers?
Recently I have inherited my own little collection of vintage books!  All are in almost perfect condition, and are from the 1940s-1950s.  The genre of most of the books are Mystery, and contain titles such as Nancy Drew, Connie Blair, Cherry Ames, and Judy Bolton.

Aren't those just the coolest looking pieces of literature you have ever seen?

So far I have read most of them, and have completely fallen in love. Ever since I was really little I have always loved Nancy Drew, and mystery books in general, so when I found these books you has no idea how excited I was.

And that's not all! My sister Also inherited a large sum of vintage books!

(i'll insert a picture when I get the chance)

I was so blessed to be given these books, and I will be sure to look for more while thrifting, because I am so in love with vintage books!

Keep on reading my friends!
Love,
Theresa
